En Internet y otras tecnologías de comunicación modernas, se denomina avatar a una representación gráfica, generalmente humana, que se asocia a un usuario para su identificación. Los avatares pueden ser fotografías o dibujos artísticos, y algunas tecnologías permiten el uso de representaciones tridimensionales.
